I guess they both work with the creatures with mana value 5 or greater theme, but I personally think they feel really out of place, both mechanically and thematically

Just remember that commander tax is an additional cost, it doesn't increase Maelstrom Wanderer's mana cost, and therefore doesn't boost the effectiveness of Cascade
