Its ability Slash required 3 DCE to deal a base damage of 30, and if a grass energy was attached to it and Sword Dance was put into effect, Slashs base damage increased from 30 to 60, which was again huge in the deck formats which were in play during its release
Simple as it is, this is a very powerful card
There are also some Commanders who can make Goblin Lore feel pretty OP like Eruth and Rielle, both of whom allow the card to generate even more value
