The one power is very handy defensively too as it holds off most one toughness attackers and works effectively in combined blocks
But as Wizards discontinued the more game-breaking cards from future print runs and gradually reduced the strength of new cards, the status of that original, arbitrary group began to acquire a historic weight they became THE Power Nine, embedded in the games earliest, pioneering era
From that point on, it's up to the opponent to respond to the new creature, or each subsequent drop will be an even bigger problem
Is it just me, or are Magic cards increasing in complexity every year
I certainly dont claim to understand it yet, but I wouldnt be surprised to discover that the right sideboarding involves swapping out blocks of cards for similar types in the sideboard, or perhaps bringing in entirely new types to support some that might be leaving
