Ethereal Escape Ice boundary markersSea stacks form where the headland erodes faster than the harder rock cores that once sat inland the cliff retreats, the cores are left standing in the surf. The Olympic coast is the section of the Lower 48 most actively giving sea stacks back to the water; Rialto, Second Beach, and Ruby Beach all hold examples.
