Having long performed in the trio setting, Brady Donkin Phipps was the group from which Bradys bandleading practice began. Featuring bassist Benjamin Phipps and drummer Cy Donkin, the group shared an interest in exploring how melody can be held in the space between a guitar, a double bass, and a drum set. With many of the melodies originating as vocal tunes, the
