Early Embroidered Silk Velvet Church Hanging With Madonna: C17th Italy Japanese obi textile designers such as LycianDating from the 17th century this early silk embroidered ecclesiastical hanging with gilt wire appliqud elements. Made from gold and red silk plush velvets inset with tent stitch embroidered corners with a central panel depicting a Madonna figure. Handworked in silk threads with angels and surrounded by gilt wire embroidered star and floral motifs. The hanging is edged with gold bullion braiding and fringing which may have been added at a later date.
