On both the top and bottom of the image there are extra lines which create boundaries, while inside this there are a set of three joined shapes. This represent shared space which is protected by clear boundaries. The Symbol side of this piece shows the Othala rune, which is derived from the Proto Germanic word alan, which means heritage or inheritance. Othala
