本作は、木の板を透かし彫りにして獅子と牡丹を表現した欄間です。獅子は荒彫りと細彫りを使い分けて毛並みを、牡丹は花弁の凹凸で立体感を出しています。

透明でないものが、より透明を捉えている不思議。茶を注げば光が茶湯に溶けていくようです。

口周りにほつれがあります。

本品は室町時代のお歯黒壺です。花を呼ぶ佇まいです。
