Each piece involves first harvesting the sustainable raffia plant, then hand dying the fibres, and finally weaving the bag. Raffia is a straw like material made from the leaves of the raffia palm tree, which is native to Madagascar. The raffia is harvested by cutting the green leaves of individual palm fronds. The leaves are then dried, resulting in long, thin strings of raffia fibre.
